A team of authors including department members Damián Blasi, Steven Moran, Paul Widmer, and Balthasar Bickel have published the paper Human sound systems are shaped by post-Neolithic changes in bite configuration in Science. In this study, the authors for the first time provide compelling evidence that the structure of human languages can be shaped by extralinguistic factors. The article has received extensive coverage through media from Switzerland (NZZ, SRG, UZH) and abroad (New York Times, National Geographic, CNN).
