Carlo Meloni, Shauli Ravfogel, and Yoav Goldberg presented "Ab Antiquo: Neural Proto-language Reconstruction" at the 2021 North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics: Human Language Technologies, showing that neural sequence models outperform conventional methods in automatically reconstructing proto-words based on exposure to cognates in contemporary daughter languages.
