Paper presentation at the 23rd Amsterdam Colloquium

Mora Maldonado & Carmen Saldana present «Interpretations of plurality in personal pronouns differ across person categories: An experimental study» at Amsterdam Colloquium 2022 (AC2022).

We present the first experimental evidence showing that speakers' likelihood to interpret plurality additively follows the person hierarchy 3 > 2 > 1. This evidence is in favour of an account whereby  the source of the asymmetry in additive interpretation of plurality across person categories is due to the combined influence of world knowledge and semantics, but not semantics alone.
