Paper out on neuroanatomical changes in hippocampal structures in the tinnitus brain

The paper titled «The neuroanatomical hallmarks of chronic tinnitus in comorbidity with pure‑tone hearing loss» by Stefan Elmer, Raffel Schmitt, Nathalie Giroud and department member Martin Meyer, published in Brain Structure and Function, provides new insights into the critical gray matter architecture of the tinnitus brain indicating that auditory phantom sensations in long-term tinnitus sufferers are retrieved from episodic memory rather than they are generated in auditory areas. These results contribute to the formulation of a novel neurobiological model of the tinnitus brain.
