Martin Meyer launches a new SNSF project on Chronic Subjective Tinnitus, exploring language processing and cognition. Tinnitus, often linked to hearing loss, affects spoken language comprehension. Existing studies lack neurophysiological insight and ignore cognitive factors. This project aims to fill these gaps, excluding older participants and those with noticeable hearing loss. Auditory, cognitive, and speech functions will be analyzed using EEG data from a sample of 54 TSI individuals and a control group. Manipulating everyday listening situations in a virtual auditory environment, the study seeks to determine factors contributing to reported speech comprehension difficulties in young and middle-aged adults with chronic subjective tinnitus.
