Sabine Stoll is presenting "Kinder lernen sprechen: Die heisse Phase des Spracherwerbs bei Vorschulkindern" at Volkshochschule Zürich, both in-person and online, on Wednesday, 08 November 2023, 19:30 - 20:45 hrs, KOH-B-10 (book here). This talk is part of the series "Das Gehirn im Verlauf des Lebens – Von der Geburt bis in die Pubertät (Teil I)".

Abstract:

Even before children go to school, they achieve an incredible learning achievement.  This also means that they already master a large part of the language.  Especially between the ages of 2 and 3, most children here make giant leaps, for example through the so-called "vocabulary sprint", during which they learn words at a speed that adults can only dream of.  The lecture presents this hot phase of language acquisition and shows how it is related to further changes in children's cognition.
