A corpus of Challow language

The aim of the project is two-fold; firstly, to create an annotated audio-visual corpus on the unreported Tibeto-Burman language Challow by collecting first-hand linguistic data (primarily spontaneous and interactional) in Pune, India. Secondly, to provide training and knowledge transfer in language documentation techniques to students and members of the tribal communities by organizing a hands-on workshop at the Deccan College in Pune.

The workshop will include a roundtable on ethics in linguistic research, where the tribal community members will lead the conversation by discussing recurrent themes and issues in language documentation practices and propose concrete actions toward a genuinely collaborative, ethical model of linguistic research.
